Four talented alien musicians are abducted by a record producer who disguises them as humans and reprograms them to forget their true identities and play soulless corporate pop as The Crescendolls. At one point, a soccer match is shown on the monitor; the playing teams are Japan and France. The two collaborators, Daft Punk and Leiji Matsumoto, are French and Japanese respectively. This film is magical, the soundtrack is wonderful, you feel like you are being lifted up in the air, as if you are “streamlined”. The story may seem quite simple, at its core it is a story of “digital love” where the hero will have to be “harder, better, faster, stronger” to save the woman of his dreams and her music band (“Crescendolls”) from an evil record producer. Leiji Matsumoto’s animation is so beautiful; for example the “night vision” of the city on Earth (probably inspired by Tokyo) is impressive. But the real “superheroes” The main characters of this film are Daft Punk. These guys understood that good music can lead us to a “good life”, they know how to move us, how to reveal “something about us”. Let them take you on this cosmic journey, whether with the Voyager shuttle or not, you will find that this is “Veridis quo”. It is a “short circuit” (only 68 minutes, the length of the album “Discovery”), but in the end, when you come “face to face” with yourself, you can only feel that you want something more, as if it has never been “too long”.
